Beware of Bestsellers

Just when we've recovered from the destruction caused by the Da Vinci Code's misguided fictional theology, wham!, another popular secular book with corrupt spirituality rises to the top of the charts. This one is so dangerous, Christians like you and me should do all we can to counteract its influence in the world, and sadly, the church. I imagine that a number of women from my church will be reading it and fail to recognize the lies within its pages. The title of this sinful diatribe? It's called Eat. Pray. Love. by Elizabeth Gilbert. The gist of the book is that women should do whatever they want, including leave their husbands, and that God not only approves but directs such behavior, because only then are women being true to ourselves. And what is worse, although admittedly not shocking, Oprah is heavily promoting the book, and Target sent out a special email about it. The link explains the book more. I have no intention of ever picking up the book to read it as it sounds like dangerous propoganda straight from the devil himself, but I think if we hear about a woman reading it, we need to step in and tell her how dangerous that book is and to put it in the trash where it belongs!

Sheesh...as if the world needed more encouragement to be selfish and self-absorbed.
