China Giving Us Deathly JunkEveryone jokes about buying cheap stuff from China, but our penchant for saving some cash may end up hurting our children.
An article in the New York Times alerts us to the problem of importing unregulated chemicals from countries such as China and filling them into our children's cough medicine. What we need is not more FDA involvement, we need an independent oversight company whose sole job is to test these imported products to ensure they are what they say they are. Products that pass could bear a symbol on the product so that consumers can choose safety when making a purchase, a feature to be of greater importance as these episodes are sure to occur more frequently. If testing gets too expensive for companies, well, maybe they should consider making some of these chemicals themselves instead of buying them from China.
China's record with its abortion policies, especially its forced abortion raids, are reason enough to end our unhealthy dependence on trade deficits with this draconian country.
